Show Don't Tell

Today in writing we learnt about 'show don't tell'.  Luke had to act out the word 'anxious'.
This is how he showed that he was anxious:
# Hugging himself tightly
# Clenching his jersey/fists
#  He is on his tippy toes pulling away from the activity
#  He is protecting his body and shielding it with his arms
#  Pursed lips
#  Pale
#  Shaking
#  Butterflies in my tummy
#  Sweaty palms

Virtue Award

Our class virtue award this week is awarded to Ray.  He is our 'I'll give it a go' boy.  On camp he willingly gave every activity a go and then encouraged others to do the same.  His motto was 'I do... so can you!'  Not only did he give it a go, he did it with a big smile even if he was freaking out!  What an inspiration you were Ray!

Fraction Maths

Today our group learnt how to add fractions with fraction strips. We worked out 1/2 + 3/4= 1 1/4.
We also worked out that it is easier to add if the denominators are the same.  We had to double some denominators to make them the same so they were easier to add.  2/6 + 2/3 =         2/6 + 4/6 = 6/6.  We also learnt that whatever we did to the denominator we had to do to the numerator.
5/10+ 2/5 can you work this out?

I can...so can you!

I can... so can you.
Hi my name is Cullen and something I do is rodeo.  I ride calves and JB Mouney is someone who inspires me to get on my calf.  I compete in lots of competitions and I'm 3rd in New Zealand for calf riding.  I hope one day I win the New Zealand calf riding title.  It is a pretty exciting sport and I like competing with my friends and I loved being interviewed.

Room 6's ironman

This moning I particapated in a three km run.  It was healthy for my mussles and my legs.   It was great fun but tiring.  It was the Iron man run for kids.
There were tents and they were set up like a big party and we had to run through them.
I got a medal and a t. shirt.  Then I had to go to school.

Hockey

Last week we had Graeme from Sport Waikato come and teach us about hockey.  We had to practice standing like hockey players... not like netballers!  He did some really cool drills with us.  Our favourite one was at the end when we had to battle our opponent and score a goal.
Tomorrow some of us are going to work with Josh the rugby guy.

Welcome to the Room 6 BLOG

Hello and Welcome to the Room 6 BLOG!  This is something new for me as a teacher to try out in our classroom.  I have attempted to use a blog before but found I was not very good at keeping it maintained.  I (We) will however attempt to be more diligent this year as it is a great way to show case what your child/ren have been getting up to at school.  I was inspired after looking at Room 19 and 20's blog!
So here it is.... I hope you enjoy reading and watching some of the cool stuff we get up to at school.
